Dan started practicing yoga after suffering a volleyball-related injury to his knees. He found that yoga helped him not only strengthen his physical capabilities, but it also improved his overall anxiety levels and ability to concentrate. He observed that the power-type yoga sequences offered in The Ultimate Yogi actually heightened these effects. His avid support for the program enhanced his desire to contribute to the series; as follows, Dan was invited to travel to Bulgaria in September 2011.
