The Raw Food Cleanse

Raw food is packed with many natural enzymes and nutrients that provide the body with ample materials to achieve optimal health. Cooking robs your food of much of its innate goodness and takes away many of the natural benefits of a healthy diet. It’s no wonder then that people who eat raw are always raving about the benefits; more energy, healthier looking skin, and rapid weight loss. This simple change from cooked to raw will indeed help you shed unwanted pounds as additional energy is required to digest raw foods. Just provide your body with the proper fuel, and it will do the work.

The Plan

For three days experiment with some the recipes that are listed below or come up with your own and send them to us. We will feature our favorites. Try and consume a 75%-85% plant based diet and never heat your food above 115 degrees Fahrenheit. Eat lots of fresh fruits, vegetables, sprouts, seeds, and nuts. Most people choose to stay vegan on this one but you may experiment with some cheeses made with raw milk. If you have the foresight you can sprout some adzuki beans or other legumes by placing them in a bowl of water for two days. These can be eaten as is or used in other recipes as a great way to fill your protein needs during these three days.  Make sure to drink plenty of water during the raw food detox to aid your body’s natural detoxification.

Why a Raw Food Detox?

In the early 1950’s food conglomerates launched a massive campaign of propaganda designed to convince the masses that they needed to cook their food and eat more protein. As beef was the hailed protein of the day, companies spent millions of dollars trying to educate the masses to the “health benefits” of steak. Coupled with government subsidization and corporate lobbying, a multi-billion dollar cattle industry was born. By the late 80s however, alarming studies were beginning to circulate reporting that many of the so-called “Western” diseases such as cancer, diabetes and heart disease were linked directly to diets high in animal-based foods. The China Project examined mortality rates during 1973-75 for 48 forms of cancer and other chronic diseases in 65 counties in China. These were correlated with dietary surveys and blood work taken a decade later from the same 65 counties. The study was conducted in those counties because they had genetically similar populations that tended, over generations, to live in the same way in the same place, and eat diets specific to those regions. It concluded that those counties with a high consumption of animal-based foods were more likely to have had higher death rates from “Western” diseases than those who ate a more plant-based diet. regions.”
